Bio
Hello. My name is Andrew Paul Woodworth. I am the son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodworth. I’m not going to write this bio in third person. Most people do that but I’m not going to. I grew up in Lake Oswego, Oregon when I was a child. As I grew older, I also grew up in Lake Oswego, Oregon. From an early age, is was apparent that I was built like a swimmer, broad shoulders and slender legs. I wasn’t much of a swimmer, though.
I was too short for tall sports and I was a bit too tall for short sports, so I decided to sing songs and make up characters to pass my time. I began to do theater in earnest until I was flown to Tennessee to do the film “Ernest Goes To Camp.” I parlayed that success into multiple appearances in films and on television shows. I was submitted for an Emmy nomination for a Hallmark Hall Of Fame television movie called, “After The Promise.” I tell people I was actually nominated. This is the very first time I have admitted that. I was represented by Susan Smith and I loved her.
I was on Star Search when I was sixteen. Ed McMahan showed little interest in me and he even pronounced the name of my home town incorrectly. I lost.
I attended UCLA as a theater major. I later attended again as an English major again.
I got my first taste of singing, in bands, at UCLA. I developed a real taste for music like The Doors and Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. My roommate and I smoked a lot of pot and we listened to those artists. I grew my hair. I started wearing flannel shirts and using phrases like, “No worries, Bro.” During this time I passed out a lot, threw up a lot and I read Ayn Rand’s, The Fountainhead. I was artsy. I was developing an identity. I appeared in several pilots during this time. “Leisure Kings,” “Hollywood Wash,” “Blue Skies” and “Life Is A Game.” I also starred alongside Kirk Cameron in the television remake of “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.”
When I was 24, I was introduced to a group of musicians through a mutual friend. I can’t remember who that friend was now, but at the time that friend was a really good friend. This band asked me to be their singer and I did. We quickly carved a niche for ourselves within the L.A. Music scene. The band was called Elephant Ride. We got signed to Sony records and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) produced our record. He was beyond us but we fucking loved the experience. We then became the ninety nine point nine nine seven four percent of bands who get signed, think they are “on their way, “ make impossible plans and plant religious gardens and then get dropped because the president of the label wants to fuck Fiona Apple.
I then formed the band Virgil with by buddy, Dave, who was also in Elephant Ride and who also went to UCLA. Dave was not much of a swimmer either.
Virgil was a blast. We played all over L.A., got signed to a record label that did not exist, got our music on some T.V. Shows and we won some L.A. Music Awards awards.
Four years ago, I was in my friend Patrick’s apartment and he started going crazy. He was talking about the Beastie Boys. He said he wanted to perform a spoken word version of Fight For Your Right. I told him that was a stupid idea. I then went home and put his idea to music. This became a jumping off point for my solo career.
With great reluctancy, I told Virgil that I was going to pursue a solo career. I mainly wanted to experiment with different instruments and different song styles and and I wanted to do something I had never done before in order to grow.
I got signed to a record label in Germany. I have been touring throughout Germany for the past few years. I have seen things I never thought I would see and I have also seen things I was pretty sure I would see. I found that people are the same wherever you go but they like to talk about how different they are. I have shared the stage with some really talented people: Sheryl Crow, Beth Hart, Deep Purple, Maroon Five, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep and Ida Maria. I have been attacked by the elderly on occasion and I have also pretended it was my record label owner’s birthday at almost every restaurant I went to with him. We don’t talk anymore.
I have released three albums officially. My latest is called, “Eddy Ate Dynamite.”
I am currently working on new material for my next album. My new stuff is always the best stuff.
I love the great soulful voices like Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Stevie Nicks, Freddy Mercury. I think Michael Jackson is the best singer to ever have walked the earth (Moonwalked the earth, I mean). Eddie Vedder is the best rock singer of all time.
What I am most proud of is that over the years, I have maintained my exuberance and my child-like curiosity with regard to music and acting. I love to play live. I love the feeling of finishing a song. I love the art of meeting strangers. I love to lose myself in a scene and to feel the power that level of commitment can wield. I love my wife and my family and my friends. I love kids. Kids are way cooler than any of us. I love to scream on key. I love salt and I love beverages. I get pissed off sometimes too.
