Ms. Gates has been working in the criminal justice system for over 20 years where she established herself as an over-achiever at every step of her career. She started her career while in college volunteering for probation and juvenile court. She later graduated from college with honors with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology before entering law school.
After graduating in the top of her class from Hastings Law School, a top 10 nationally ranked law school, Ms. Gates went to work for the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office before starting her own private practice as a defense attorney. To date, Ms. Gates has completed over 100 criminal trials in both state and federal court and has handled several notable appellate cases.
Ms. Gates has worked on both sides of criminal law as a prosecutor and as a phenomenally successful defense attorney. Her stunning track record of case results has drawn national attention. She has appeared in such television programs as the Leeza Gibbons Show, Fox News and CBS News as a result of her many high profile cases. She has also appeared on LA radio station KROQ and the nationally syndicated Larry Elder Show.

Some of her precedent-setting opinions have been published and resulted in the creation of new laws.
