Bob Hughes

Event Staging – 13th Annual LA Music Awards

Bob Hughes is the only member of the All Access family who can’t get enough of this business, on or behind the stage. A veteran of the industry, Bob’s career began in 1969 when he learned to play the drums. Bob jokingly admits, “You know your parents love you when they let you have a drum kit in your bedroom.” Many bands later and a couple of additional instruments learned, he worked on his first professional gig behind the scenes as a drum technician for Ambrosia in 1980. Since then, he has become a permanent production fixture, working at Showlites, Obies, Audio Analysts, Light and Sound Design, Showpower, and finally landing at All Access in 1994. Bob’s specialty at All Access has become sales, producing sets and staging for such shows as Van Halen, KISS, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, American Idol, X-Factor, and a plethora of award shows throughout each year, including The Grammy Awards, Kid’s Choice, People’s Choice, MTV Movie and VMA’s, to name a few.

While working for All Access, Bob’s fondest memories are hanging out in rehearsals and watching the mighty Van Halen run through their entire David Lee Roth catalog during the winter of 2011. On the other hand, the most challenging gigs for Bob has been the 2011 Dancing with the Stars three-story audience structure, and an ill-fated TV game show called Downfall for which he helped supply the staging and structure on top of an eight-story building downtown. All in all, Bob considers his job to be the best job in the world, and lives by the quote, “Do what you love, the money will follow.”

As much as Bob enjoys the production side of the industry, his greatest passion is playing music, especially the drums and guitar. He is currently performing regularly in Southern California with his band Without Warning.  Check them out at withoutwarningrocks.com.
