Born and raised in the desert of West Texas, designer John Renaud moved to New York City in 2005 to attend the prestigious Pratt Institute, where he majored in fashion design. John got his roots in patternmaking while working for a technical design firm where he had the opportunities to work on projects for such clients as Oscar De La Renta, Daniel Vossovic and Chesley Mclaren. He has worked with designer Christian Joy; first as her intern and later her assistant. Under Joy John was given the opportunity to work not only on the Christian Joy line, but on the costumes Joy designed for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Klaxons. Renaud also trained under designer Gary Graham. Upon graduation from Pratt John was awarded top honors including the Alfredo Cabrerra Sportswear award for his thesis collection and the Cotton Inc Eveningwear Award. Surface Magazine also featured Renaud’s collection as one of the top thesis projects for 2009.
After University John worked in the corporate world on the contemporary design teams for both J.C. Penney and Converse, and in the world of luxury millinery as a hat designer for Selima Hats. Since 2009 John has worked closely as a style consultant and designer for Peaches and has created looks for other notable individuals such as comedian/activist Margaret Cho, the talented JD Samson and MEN, and the legendary Cyndi Lauper.
