Nominated for Female Vocalist of the year 8th Annual LA Music Awards
Based in Los Angeles during the 90’s, Karen Lawrence and Blue By Nature emerged from the area’s thriving and highly competitive blues/R&B music scene to become one of the top bands in Southern California. Renowned for their high-energy live shows and stellar original material, Blue By Nature toured extensively throughout the USA winning themselves a solid core of faithful followers that is still growing, thanks in part, to the release of their three excellent CDs available through CD Baby and iTunes, along with several videos on YouTube.
The heart and soul of Blue By Nature is Karen Lawrence – a dynamic singer, prolific songwriter, and charismatic performer with a spirited stage presence. Since the age of 9, Lawrence has performed continually, enjoying a challenging and diverse career. She fronted her first band, a blues outfit, at age 13. As front woman for the A&M Records band called 1994:, produced by Jack Douglas, (John Lennon, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick), Lawrence’s distinctive and emotive vocal stylings frequently put her on International critics’ “Best Female Singer” lists.
…“it was 1994:’s Karen Lawrence who gave the others the choice of being second best or giving up”
– Kerrang Magazine, United Kingdom.
…”probably the greatest female-fronted release of all time” – Geoff Barton, Classic Rock Magazine, United Kingdom, rating 1994:‘s vinyl albums recently reissued on CD for a Collector’s Edition by Rock Candy Records, UK.
In addition to lead vocal and writing credits on Jeff Beck’s Epic/Legacy release “Beckology” and background credits on releases by Aerosmith, Slash, and Mark Farner, Lawrence’s most notable coup was composing “Prisoner”, the theme song for the film “The Eyes of Laura Mars”. The song was immortalized by Barbra Streisand and was included on her Greatest Hits II album which was over 4 times platinum. The song has been identified in songbooks as one of the one hundred best love songs and has recently been recorded by renowned blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa, released on his latest CD entitled “Dust Bowl“.
