Internationally-acclaimed, third-generation and award-winning singer-songwriter-pianist Katherine Farnham, aka ‘The Kool Kat’ has been compared to such diverse artists as Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, and Ricky Lee Jones. All Music Guide says “Her lyrics are heavy and meaningful, but her vocalizing is soaring.” With rave reviews in several languages, hundreds of original songs and equal doses class and angst, she is one of the industry’s most promising new artists. A consummate musician, Katherine combines a beautiful four-octave voice with a jazz and pop/rock-influenced piano style. Going a step further she writes prolifically of love, passion, hope and myth with a thoughtful integrity that both illuminates and entertains.
Kat has appeared on Good Morning America, NBC 6, Telemundo and toured throughout the US and abroad. Her latest studio project includes a multiple Grammy-winning production team in Los Angeles, Nashville and Miami. The first single is a new version of “My Shoes Are Leaking”, Katherine’s signature song now available for sale here. “My Shoes Are Leaking, New Version” is also being offered as a free download to all veterans as a Tribute to Our Troops with moving lyrics of a couple separated by military deployment. It features Kat’s soaring vocals, lush background harmonies and a jazz feel that effortlessly merges the classic with the contemporary.
Katherine grew up in Pennsylvania in a musical family. She wrote her first song at age 5 during a family road trip and performed her first vocal solo the same year. She took piano lessons from her mom, who was an early influence. Her mother was a concert pianist and her father toured with The Boston Pops. She went on to graduate summa cum laude from Boston’s Berklee College of Music and release a critically-acclaimed debut EP that earned her international commercial airplay and rave reviews from both critics and fans alike.
Katherine’s image is an uncanny blend of beautiful woman, seductress and best friend. Her down-to-earth approach and genuine caring for people radiates from her lyrics in “Mother Earth” (see YouTube video), and “Mosaic.” Fans and friends are inspired by her inner strength and ability to overcome obstacles to be a consistent artistic force. She has performed with Latin jazz greats Tito Puente Jr. and salsa legend Celia Cruz.
Katherine’s discography includes her critically – acclaimed debut EP “For the Love of it All”, the bold, acoustic “Songs from the Troubadour” and the “Mosaic” single. Recently her upbeat track “Chemistry” was chosen from over 4000 artists to appear on the AIM Compilation CD, released in Amsterdam.
