Nominated for Urban/pop R&B Artist 8th annual LA Music Awards
Growing up in Pacoima, California proved to be no easy task for the Henry Family. Darryl Henry; the oldest brother of 7 siblings saw something special in his sister’s; he wanted to create something inventive and unique. In hopes to feed their growing need to find a way of creative expression, Darryl encouraged them to allow music to become their voice. He became the brain child behind what was about to become a musical voyage for his family that would last for more then a decade. From a very early age they were moved by very strong influences from artist like: Steve Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Earth, Wind & Fire, America, Janis Joplin and so many others. Finding a united voice to showcase all that touched their souls would prove to be a difficult task. The music they began to create unearthed and gave birth to their very different sound: rock and soul. The women and voices of the band include: Andrea, Michal, Camille, Cara and Erin. Their heartbeat (The Band) includes: Darryl (Keys) Ray (Bass) Cassondra (acoustic guitar) Scott Shiers (Lead electric guitar) and Charlie Glover (drums). They blasted on to the Hollywood club scene and were invited to play at such classic venues like: The House of Blues in Hollywood and Las Vegas, The Whiskey A Go-Go, Viper Room, The Troubador, The Mint, The Gig in Hollywood and Los Angeles and Luna Park just to name a few. Shortly thereafter they were featured on MTV’S “The Cut” with Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez, Show Time in Harlem, CD Highway, and The Keenen Ivory Wayans show where they won the talent segment and later became Simi Finalist. Their buzz grew quickly and scored them an invite to be featured on the The Johnnie B show; a radio program on 97.1 F.M. that was broadcast live in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas. Audiences soon fell in love with their unique and vibrant look on life in which they express through song. From songs like their celebrated “Black Girl” about empowerment, “Bed Of Roses” about reclaiming what was once lost to “Believe” which was inspired by Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”; fans young and old a like had spoken: the powerful rock marinated with soul was exactly what they were craving! Their current achievements and honors became obvious to all who had their eye on Little Sista: they were ready to put Rock n Soul on the map! In 1998 Little Sista was listed in Music Connection magazine’s “Hot 100 Unsigned Bands”. They were nominated and won “Best Urban Pop R&B band” at the L.A. Music awards. A few years later, “Just Plain Folks”, a song writing and musical networking organization, nominated their album “Revolution” as Best R&B album and Best Live Band Performance” in which they took home the “Best Live Band Performance” award. Later on that year Rock City News helped them round out the year by nominating them as “Best R&B band in which they won that honor as well. They have collaborated with Judge Jackson who featured them on the song “Amazing” and Holly Light who featured their soulful vocals on her lastest album release “Forgiveness Road” on the Warrior Girl label. Little Sista’s vocals were featured on her tracks: “My Baby”, “Red White & Blues”, and “Hurricane”. Throughout the years they have had the pleasure of working with Chris Stokes, Shanice Wilson, Kenny Ski from Christian and many more. They were also featured in a national Timex Ad campaign for their watches! After a 3 year hiatus they are back. Throughout the years only one thing remains the same for them; continually pushing the envelope and defying the laws of musical gravity. Their Mission: To break down the prejudice and classification that continues to plague the music industry. Little Sista has and will always write music that moves their soul no matter what form or shape it takes. As time goes on their music continues to show growth and maturity. Refusing to conform allows them the freedom to write and sing the music that is in their hearts. Little Sista doesn’t really care how you classify their music; their only goal is to take you to a place that you have never been before and back again, and again. ..
