2010 Recipient – 3rd annual Phoenix Awards – 20th Annual LA Music Awards
This album, “The Edge’ is simply made up of music that I wrote and recorded with some very good friends of mine. Most of my life I have dedicated to making heavy metal music. I am however a person who enjoys many styles of music. I have always had a great love and respect for the music of Johnny Cash – Willie Nelson – Waylon Jennings etc. The outlaws of country music have always been my favorites. This is my attempt at making an album that has the flavor of my hero’s music but twisted in my own way. This record was truly a labor of love from beginning to end.
During the writing process of these songs, in the summer of 2006 and early 2007, I was still feeling the effects of chemotherapy that I had to go through for cancer. Then on Feb 14th 2007, my mother was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) which was a death sentence. My family and I took care of her and watched my Mom fight like a true champion the entire duration of her illness, up until it took her life November 10th 2008. The title cut of this album, entitled “The Edge,” pretty much describes where my head was at during all of that. It was like I was standing on a cliff between Heaven and Hell. I wasn’t sure anymore whether to try to elevate myself upwards towards the angels or to just jump in the flames below!
Many thanks to all the great people who took part in the making of this album. It has been a real honor and pleasure to work with all of you!
