Rockin’ Rod Long

Presenter at 1st annual LA Music Awards (Local Music Awards)

Possibly referring to Chris Hot Rod Long

Began as a freelance music journalist at age 19- during the last heydays of Los Angeles’ live music scene( 1988-1993)
This led to concert promoting opportunities working with many HUGE bands before they got famous- including STONE TEMPLE PILOTS RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and Ice’ T’s BODY COUNT- as well as KYUSS ( who later became QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE , HERMANO, + EAGLES OF DEATH METAL countless others that had a bit of fame( Sugartooth- Divine Weeks- Animal Bag- Greta- Pygmy Love Circus- LIQUID JESUS). That led to an A+R job at Chameleon Records- ( Ethyl MEATPLOW, KYUSS, LUCINDA WILLIAMS DRAMARAMA JOHN LEE HOOKER) that ended with the labels demise in Nov 1993.
After the return to concert promoting and journalism proved inadequate to support myself- I got a fantastic marketing job at the Los Angeles Times where I won many awards as top salesman- and also learned tons about the concept of selling someone on an idea/product and how important creating SALE-ABLE materials is in terms of driving business. During this time I was also kept pretty busy writing critical reviews and constructive criticisms of struggling artists music for a company called TAXI- which is where I found my first management client- CROSSFADE leader Ed Sloan.
Working with Ed- we have gone from the unsigned musician with a song and band of friends- and big dreams– to a platinum plus selling band that had the most played rock song of the YEAR 2005–(*billboard magazine/ Radio + Records magazine) on domestic commerical radio- with their debut single COLD. Crossfade did everything from small club tours to arena rock dates- overseas tours for US military personnel at US Military bases to intensive press campaigns involving months of daily promotion while in the middle of a tour. When I went to New York to get South Carolina based client Villanova signed I also was the first person to shop my friends demos to the music business. Her name is Christina Perri.

Specialties:I help clients navigate all aspects of their career in the music/entertainment business. Having the “EARS” to know who to pick to work with is only one of the things I must be able to do as once I find great music- finding ways to present it to the people in charge of picking what bands get signed is a big deal- one that I have experience handling with many different artists in many different genres although I do specialize in rock music.
