Regina Thomas, Maywood Native, Wins LA-Based Music Award

imageRegina Thomas Dillard, a native of Maywood, earned recognition from the Akademia Music Awards, based in Los Angeles, CA. Dillard won songwriting awards in three categories — best pop/country song, best comtemporary Christian song and best pop song, for which she was a finalist.

According to Akademia’s website, nominees and award winners are determined by the “general voting process held by our expert panel of six judges, who are all former senior executives and industry veterans from some of the largest record companies.”

Winners of the awards have the opportunity to benefit from “robust marketing & sales support, national radio airplay, as well as performance & licensing opportunities,” according to the website.

Dillard began her musical in classical violin at 10 years old and played throughout high school. Her father was a self-taught saxophonist who exposed her to a wide variety of musical genres, such as jazz, blues and country.

Dillard has contributed to music on scores of projects. Some of them include projects by Living Word Christian Center DuPage AME Church and the Anointed Harvesters Productions, according to a biography. Dillard owns her own publishing company, Go Gee! Music, Inc.
