Burn Unit

Welcome to the LAC+USC Regional Burn Center. Our center is committed to providing world-class comprehensive, compassionate, innovative care to our patients. For over 50 years, we have been a leader in burn care. With the opening of the new LAC+USC facility in 2008, we became the most advanced center in Southern California.

Advanced Technology: The new burn center offers cutting-edge diagnostic, clinical and surgical equipment. The 10 dedicated ICU beds provide integrated monitoring with advanced care capabilities. We have a state of the art wound care unit with highly trained nurses to implement the innovative care protocols. This is housed in a hospital with a robotic laboratory and a rooftop helipad with direct access to emergency treatment for the most critical patients.

Dedicated Services: The Burn Center has 10 intensive care isolation beds, 10 acute beds, a dedicated operating room, experienced occupational and physical therapists and a 24-hr emergency evaluation clinic for the care of burn patients.

Highly-Trained Staff: The multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, dieticians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, social workers and ministers is backed by a full range of physician specialists at the Keck School of Medicine. All nurses are ICU trained and work towards specialization in pediatrics and wound care.

Specialty Provider Network: As a part of the LAC+USC Healthcare Network, patients have access to an extensive network of physician specialists. The Burn Center also partners with Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center to offer long-term rehabilitation care.

Integrated Care: Severe burn injuries can impact many factors in a patient’s life. Our patient and family-centered approach strives to meet the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of each patient from the time of initial treatment through recovery and rehabilitation.

Innovation: The Burn Center has been at the forefront of many advances in burn treatment that have dramatically improved patient outcomes. We are currently involved in NIH-funded research on burn injury, wound healing, fibrosis, cytokines, and inflammation. Through education and research, we continuously seek to improve burn prevention and burn care, not only for our patients, but also for the entire community.

Quality Care: In recognition of our quality patient care, we are designated as a Center of Burn Care Excellence by the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association.

Patient Referrals and Inquiries: 24/7 service is provided for outpatient visits, emergency evaluations, admissions, or consultations. Consultations/Ward: 323-409-7991; Burn ICU: 323 409-7997. Patients who present at an outside hospital (OH) for treatment, OH will contact Medical Alert Center (MAC, 323-869-0578). MAC then contacts Burn Center who consults Resident/Fellow/Attending MD on call to evaluate severity of burn, and discuss appropriateness of transfer.

Rotating Residents: Our Burn Center Board Certified Teaching Staff provides rotating residents with specialized training and education in all aspects of burn care and the treatment of critically ill burn patients. They teach residents ways to apply their knowledge and skills, and develop effective treatment plans to effectively treat a variety of burn injured patients.

For these reasons we ask that you consider using the LAC+USC Regional Burn Center with its new facility and expert burn team to treat your patients.

Sincerely,

Warren Garner, MD
Director, LAC+USC Regional Burn Center
